Credit by Mark Simms

What you need:
+ A portrait of the victim. AKA, the zombie and a picture of a human skull. Ideally in the roughly the same pose as your portrait which can be found on Google images.

+ Download The “Pretty” free brush collection found here. Ideally you will need to grab “Pretty Cuts`n`cracks” & “Pretty Sore”
+ Download The “Veins” brushes here.
+ It would also be nice if you had the `tonemapping` plug-in by Photomatix. Not essential but handy.

Let’s get started!

OK, First off, install the downloaded brushes into your Photoshop brushes folder, we’ll need them a bit later.

STAGE 1

Now, we need to prepare your portrait. These next steps are not obligatory, and you can skip to Stage 2 and start to zombify your image.

I would recommend resizing the image to roughly 1300 pixels at its longest edge. The reason for this is that some of the brushes we downloaded earlier look a bit crappy if we try to enlarge them to accommodate a bigger image, I found that working on a medium sized image allows us to retain the clarity of the brushes later on. You may crop it to the desired format at this point as well as I have below.

Next, and this part is optional, we tonemap the image. So first off you will need to convert the image to 16-bit, the run the tonemapping filter. Play with the sliders until you get an effect you like. I use tonemapping as it gives the image a nice dirty look.

Next I duplicate that bottom layer,s o now we have two layers the same. Selecting the top layer You need to Desaturate it (CTRL+SHIFT+U) then set the blending mode of the newest layer to OVERLAY. Set the opacity of the new layer to roughly 70%. You should end up with something akin to this.

We need to bring the eye detail back into the image, so we are going to add a layer mask to the top layer. To do this, select the layer and click the little black rectangle with the white circle at the bottom of the layers palette. You should now get a white rectangle alongside the thumbnail of the top layer. Next select the brush tool and select black as your colour. Now click on the white rectangle next to the top layer thumbnail to select it. Now you should be able to `paint` over the eye and you will see the bottom layer appear. Close up view below.

OK, now that’s all done, we will flatten these two layers into a new single layer, press CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+N then CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+E. this will consolidate all the work we have done so far into a new, single layer. This will now act as our base image. You may hide the previous 2 layers.

STAGE 2 - Adding the skull

Right, now we need to add the skull to the image and fit it to our face. The image of the skull I use in this tutorial was a skull I borrowed from the Oral Surgery department at the hospital where I work. Anyway, I opened the image in Photoshop, cropped the skull to size, then copied it into my base document.

I reduced the opacity of the skull to 50%, then hit CTRL+T to enter into transform mode. Move and resize the skull to fit your face. The best way to line this up so it is more realistic is to pay attention to key feature. The most important being the upper ridge of the eye-socket lines up with the same ridge on your face, the jawbone needs to roughly line up as well, and also make sure the teeth and nose are in roughly the right place. This may mean you need to distort the skull image quite a lot from how it originally looked, but since we wont be seeing too much of the skull it doesn’t matter if the rest of it isn’t perfect.. basically the ridges of the eyes/eyebrows, the teeth and the nose are the most important here. See below for example.

Once you are happy with the skull placement, hit enter and then set the opacity of the layer back upto 100%. Add a layer mask to the skull layer and mask out the edges around the skull. I also had to mask around the fingers as they would, in real-life(?) be obstructing the face/skull. This is what I have so far, hopefully yours will be looking something like this now.

OK, next we need to go back to our base layer, that is the composite of the first two layers, and duplicate it and drag it to the top of the layer stack. Create a layer mask on that layer and get ready to scrape away some of your skin!!

Selecting the newest layer mask, select the brush tool, medium hardness, and select black from the colour palette (remember you can switch between Black and White by pressing the “X” key). Now, when you start to paint on the face, you will see the skull layer beginning to appear, freaky huh? I find its best to completely paint out the nose and one of the eyes and of course the teeth! Another great tip to remember is to use the square brackets “[ & ]” to alter your brush size on-the-fly.

Take you time on this stage and have fun, pay particular attention to the area around the teeth and try to make the skin/teeth blend in nicely together. Hopefully your image will look something similar to this now.

Even at this stage the picture looks super gruesome already, but what kind of self-respecting zombie doesn’t have a bit of flesh-rot to really stink up the place!! This is where things get very nasty indeed.

STAGE 3 - Rips and Scars and Veins, oh my!!

OK, next you need to create another layer, name this one VEINS.

OK, here you need to load up the “Pretty Cracks & Sores” brush set we downloaded earlier. These are pretty big brushes, however we really need them to cover the whole face (we will mask out the surplus veins in a minute). Select a brush you like the look of, choose a nice dark, deep red from the colour picker (and RGB value of 74,0,0 works well) and stamp it over your face (on the new layer). Don’t worry if it looks a bit strange at the moment. Add a layer mask to this layer and use the black brush tool to delete the veins’n’stuff from areas that don’t need them (eyes, bits of skull, fingers, teeth etc). Set the layer mode to `Multiply”. Again, spend a bit of time on this to make it look badass. Once finished, right click on the layer. Select “Blending Options” and put a tick in the “Bevel & Emboss” check box, here I used the defaults but adjusted the depth a tiny bit to increase the bumpiness of the veins.

Now, you can add more layers and use more of the brushes we download earlier to add more scarring, tearing and veinage, experiment and have fun, it really is great defacing yourself or a loved one!! Remember to use separate layers for the hands, body etc.

So next is just a few more overall cosmetic changes to the image to make it darker & grittier. Basically I just add a gradient map layer (black to white), contrast/brightness layer and adjust to taste!! Now, hopefully you should be zombified up to the max. George Romero would be proud of you! R.I.P.

5 Situations When Manual Focus is Better than Auto Focus

Digital Cameras present photographers with an ever increasing array of Automatic and Semi Automatic shooting modes. Most of these center around different ways of exposing your shots - however many cameras also give options for different focusing modes (auto, continuous focusing for moving subjects and manual).

It’s no wonder then that many photographers never make use of their camera and lens’ ability to focus manually. In fact this week I spoke with one DSLR owner recently who hadn’t even noticed the manual/auto focus switch on the side of his lens.

When is Manual Focus Better than Auto Focus?

Let me start by saying there is no right or wrong time to use either manual or auto focusing - both can produce great results in almost all circumstances - however there are a few times when you might find it easier to switch to manual focusing:

1. Macro Work

When doing macro photography I almost exclusively switch to manual focusing.

The narrow depth of field in these shots mean that you need to be incredibly precise with focusing and being just a smidgeon out or having your camera choose to focus on the wrong part of your subject can completely ruin a shot.

To use it you’ll also probably want to use a tripod to eliminate any movement of the camera which can make focusing either in manual or auto mode frustrating.

Manual focusing puts the control completely in your hands when shooting in this very precise setting.

2. Low Light

Shooting in dimly lit environments can be difficult for some cameras and lenses when it comes to focusing.

You’ll know when your camera is struggling in Auto mode when every time you go to take a shot the lens will whirl from one end of it’s focusing options to the other and back again before deciding on where to focus.

This can really lengthen your shooting process and make taking quick candid shots quite frustrating.

Switch to manual mode and you can quickly find your focusing point and get the shot you’re after.

3. Portraits

When shooting portraits focus needs to be precise.

The majority of your shots of people will need to have their eyes in perfect focus (although in the example to the left it’s the lips) and so switching to manual focus will give you complete control to enable this to save you from having to line up the focusing points on your camera on the eyes, press halfway down and then frame your shot.

Manual focusing in portrait work helps to ensure the viewer of the image is drawn to the part of the face that you want them to notice.

4. Shooting Through Glass/Wire Fences

If you’ve ever shot through anything like a window or a mess/wire fence you’ll know how cameras will often get confused on where to focus your shot.

Whether it’s shooting out of a plane window, taking a shot of an image at a museum or photographing animals through fences at the zoo - you might find your camera is confused.

Manual focusing will avoid this completely and allow you to get things just right - focusing upon the subject behind that glass or fence. If you do this in conjunction with a large aperture (which decreases depth of field) and get in close to the fence or glass you might well eliminate it completely from being noticeable in your shot.

5. Action Photography

Shooting fast moving subjects (like racing cars, planes, bikes, running animals etc) can be a frustrating experience when shooting with auto focus.

Even the continuous focusing modes can get left behind or confusing if you’re not panning with your subject smoothly.

One way to overcome this is to switch to manual focusing and pre focus on a point that the subject will move through - and shooting at that point. You need to get your timing just right - but you’ll find that it’ll often give better results than relying upon auto focus modes (particularly if you shoot in continuous shooting/burst mode).

Blasting Solar

1. This can also be used to create a motion blur effect, to show speed down a long straight road or path. Everything in this tutorial can be done using any recent version of Adobe Photoshop. Including Elements, The final picture will look like this:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_iaaA85lGgJ4/RxuQ9CcyFNI/AAAAAAAAAI8/e1OZRUdPinE/s320/DSC04359.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5123848379368084690" />
This technique can create very dramatic effects that can improve a photo a lot.

Step 1:
Open up your image in photoshop.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_iaaA85lGgJ4/RxuQ9ScyFOI/AAAAAAAAAJE/TBuPYzcORHU/s320/DSC04359a.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5123848383663052002" />

Step 2:
Use the rectangular selection tool to select your skyline. If your skyline isn’t straight, use the Polygonal Lasso tool.

Here, I have deselected the small buildings on the skyline. I do this by holding ALT and then drawing a box around the area I want to de-select. I have also highlighted the area in red so you can see what I have selected.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_iaaA85lGgJ4/RxuQ9icyFPI/AAAAAAAAAJM/Pj31MkYd8LI/s320/DSC04359b.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5123848387958019314" />

Step 3:
Once you’ve got your sky selected, go to Filter>Blur>Radial Blur

Set the Blur Method to “Zoom”, then your ready to start testing the Amount.

Now’s the tricky part, you need to look at your picture and decide where you want the zoom to center. Its no good having your picture zooming into the top right hand corner, it’ll look wrong. So try to pick the spot where a lead-in ends, such as a long road or a path. Here, I’ve used a long walkway and positioned my zoom center at the end.

Important note: If your skyline isn’t at the bottom of your photo, you will need to treat the positioning box as your selection. So If you place the zoom center at the bottom of the box, the zoom will go level with your skyline.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_iaaA85lGgJ4/RxuQ9ycyFRI/AAAAAAAAAJc/Gpk8u_HxfIc/s320/211020071735230031.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5123848392252986642" />

Put the quality to Medium or Low and experiment with the Amount of zoom applied. The reason your using lower quality, is its faster. If you go straight for best, it can sometimes take a couple of minutes to work it out. So it can be frustrating when you’ve been sat watching nothing for 2 minutes only to find out your picture is a frantic blur of nothing.

Once you’ve got your Amount right, set the quality to Best and let it work. I usually use around 20-40 Zoom, so try around those figures.

If you are totally happy with your settings, click OK and wait for it to load.

Finished!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_iaaA85lGgJ4/RxuQ9icyFQI/AAAAAAAAAJU/Y6PqEi0MxFg/s320/DSC04359.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5123848387958019330" />

How to Creating a rainy scene

Hello All. This time we will take a photo and hit the weather-switch to “Very rainy”. Follow along and you might learn something new

 Step 1: Add noise
Rain is basicly small drips of water, so to save time we will use filters to create the drips. Create a new document with greater size than your photo, make it double or something like that.

Fill the background layer with black. Then add a Noise-filter.
Filter > Noise > Add Noise

(Ammount: 20-40%)
(Distribution; Gaussian and Monochromatic)

Step 2: Motion blur
Right now, we have our small drips (basicly small white dots) that are freezed. Usually, rain falls. So I suggest we add a Motion blur-filter to give our drips the speed they deserve.

Filter > Blur > Motion Blur

(Angle: Choose the angle of your rain (-63)
(Distance: Choose the speed of the drips (21))

Step 3: Adjust levels
If you ask me, I would say that the image right now is too noisy and flat for our purpose. Easy to fix, by adjusting the image’s Levels!

Image > Adjustments > Levels

This was the last step for the first part of this tutorial. In the next part I will show you how to apply the rain to your photos.

Applying the rain to a photograph

All right, we have now got our rain and the final step is to apply the rain to a photo. The tecnique is basicly based on blending and the trick is to create an illusion of depth in the rain.

Move your rain-layer and place it on top of a photo. Then change the Blending mode to Screen.

That is all you need to make a scene look rainy. You might want to adjust the opacity or maybe duplicate the rain-layer to increase the ammount of rain.

Here are some result pictures of what you can achive using this technique in Adobe Photoshop.See before/after

Get A Graphic Designer According To Your Budget

Every business owner knows that in order to get what you want for your brochure printing project, you need to hire an experienced and skilled graphic designer who can work with you to create an excellent quality and effective brochure printing material.

But a business owner also knows for a fact that getting a graphic designer to design a brochure printing project for his or her business involves a great deal of money. In fact, the cost often gets the greater piece of the budget pie. It is no wonder therefore, that a lot of business owners tend to venture on their own to save on expenses for their brochure printing pieces.

So how to hire a graphic designer and still have the budget in tight reins for your brochure printing project? As with any kind of service, your brochure printing costs for your graphic designer is relative to the needs that you have, as well as to the company you've asked for a brochure printing job quote. Here are some of the factors you have to consider when hiring a graphic designer to do your brochure printing design for you:

1 - Insurance. Make sure to ask whether they are insured or not, as this would protect you from problems later on (i.e. copyright infringement, ownership of brochure printing design rights).

2 - Value Added Service. Additional services that would make it easier for you to deal with your hired graphic designer for your brochure printing project will almost always get you additional fees. These include services such as online payment of the invoice provided by your brochure printing designer.

3 - Design Standards. As always, good design equals, most often than not, more costs. You could almost count in your fingers those great graphic designers who can design your brochure printing project for you at less cost.
A skilled and experienced graphic designer would already have the reputation, enough to give them the opportunity to charge a much higher rate. It's often true that you get what you pay for. And this also holds true for most graphic designers for your brochure printing project.

4 - Skills and Experience. The more experienced and skilled the graphic designer, the more he or she will charge for your brochure printing project. Your hired graphic designer for your brochure printing project has earned the right to charge more for their knowledge and experience.

The experience of your graphic designer also often relays to better service because your brochure printing designer would know and understand how to prepare and plan for the things needed for your brochure printing job, even without any prompting on your part. In addition, your graphic designer would most likely be able to deal with issues that might come up, hence, making it easier for you to get your print brochures reproduced quickly.

Depending on your needs and requirements, there are still many factors you have to consider when deciding to get the appropriate graphic designer for your brochure printing project. You have to realize though, that hiring a graphic designer is just like getting a box of chocolates - you'll never know what you'll get unless you try one.

About the Author by Colleen Davis

Educational software adobe photoshop- A great educational tool you can buy

Educational software from
adobe photoshop is a great software from the stable of
adobe family and is one of the popular products. Their work are used mainly for printed, published or electronic forms of media, such as newspapers, magazines, TV, film and Internet, for advertising or display purpose.

The main objective of graphic design is to present information that is not only easily accessed, but also looks pleasing to the eye. It could be information to promote, publicise or advertise a certain product, service or topic.

There are many different places where Graphic Design is needed. It could be used for Business Card, Logo, Internet Article, Book, Magazines, and endless places of imagination.

To be good in graphic design, one needs to have the foundation knowledge, preferably from a related institution, of what makes a viewer ticks. The graphic designer would need to know the emotional response that a viewer would have when viewing their design. They would need to know the different effect that White Spaces, Bold Graphic, Type of Fonts, Colours, Lines and other possible graphics, could have on the viewers.

A good Graphic Designer would keep himself or herself up-to-date with Design knowledge by reading up on books, magazines and getting information from the Internet. Another good source is the Graphic Design Stories and News that are widely available on an international basis on the Internet. News on Graphic Design can come from New York, Japan and China, just to name a few. If not may I ask why? Submitting articles is one of the best ways you can quickly and easily increase not only your web traffic but also your sales your business makes in any given month.

I would like to take this time to discuss with you some of the benefits that come with submitting you articles to e-zine sites, and why I recommend you start doing it.

1.You'll brand your web site, business and yourself by submitting articles to e-zines. You could include your name, business name, your credentials, web site address and e-mail address in your resource box. Branding yourself is an important part of business if you wish to make yourself stand out from your competitors.

 2. You will become known as an expert on the topics you write about. This will give you and your business extra credibility, which will help you, compete against your competition. People will start to have more truth and faith in your business.

3. Your article might also be placed on the publisher's home page. If they publish each issue on their home page this will give you some extra exposure. Every bit of extra traffic will greatly help your website.

4. You might get extra exposure if the e-zine publisher archives their e-zine on their site. People might want to read the back issues before they make the decision to subscribe.

5. You will get free advertising. This will allow you to spend your profits on other forms of advertising. You could buy advertisements in other e-zines that don't publish your articles.

6. You might get extra income from people wanting to hire you to write other articles, books, or even ask to speak at seminars. This is a great way to multiply your income.

 7. You could allow e-zine publishers to publish your articles in their free e-books. Since people give them away, your advertising could multiply all over the Internet. This could have a viral affect and really bring in tons of traffic.

8. You will get your article published all over the web when you submit it to an e-zine publisher that has a free content directory on their web site. They'll allow their visitors to republish your article with your bio and website link in it.

9. You'll gain people's trust. If they read your article and like it, they won't be as hesitant to buy your product or service. You will then be able to increase your profits.

10. You could get your article guaranteed to run in an e-zine. You could agree to run one of their articles in your e-zine if, in exchange; they run yours in their e-zine. It's a win/win situation.

What look for in free hosting

What to look for when choosing free hosting When choosing a free website hosting company, there are a few things to take into consideration. These range from speed of the site to the site's function ability. It is important to ensure these aspects are up-to-scratch when you choose your company. So, without further to do; these are a few things that I look for when I'm choosing a free website hosting company. Coding What coding does the hosting company allow you to use on your site. Generally, speaking most free website hosting companies only allow you to use html. This is fine, however, you may decide to upgrade or change your site. Whereby, you are in need of more advanced coding, such as .php or asp. Then it is well worth your time to ensure that you have everything you need or could ever need. However, if you do happen to run into this problem, most free hosting companies allow you to upgrade to a paid subscription. Whereby, all coding and other features are available for use. Ads Some hosting companies use forced ads to sponsor your free hosting. It is best to check whether your company will place forced ads on your site. A forced ad is an ad that is automatically added to your site without your consent. I strongly recommend that you completely disregard any hosting companies that use ads to support your site. File Transfer Before I venture in the realm of free website hosting companies, I like to ensure that my company allows me to have FTP access. FTP is essential for those that desire easy file transfer from computer to site. If the company doesn't have FTP then they most likely have a browsers based file transferring system. In my opinion, these systems are never as efficient as FTP. So, if you are in need of easy file transfer, make sure that the site allows you FTP access. Domain names Quite simple, the ability to register a domain via your hosting company or a third-party site. Then to have said domain transferred to your new hosting service. Alternatively, you could always register a sub-domain from the company, as most offer this service. These are just the basics to look for when choosing free hosting. The saying; "you get what you paid for" should not be taken into consideration when choosing free hosting. You should expect nothing but the best, as this is your precious little site that we're talking about.

Photograph Gallery #4

<marquee>
...In the world nothing beautiful without keeping...Let's take a Photograph....
</marquee>
All of these photo from DSL-camera. You Need Stability

When you want to get the absolute best results from your photography, you'll need to employ a tripod.

A tripod stabilizes the camera, leading to much sharper images than you're generally likely to get without it. This is especially true when it comes to taking photos in poor light.

Vibration control
These days, many consumer cameras come with built-in vibration control. More expensive cameras may move vibration control to the lens.

Vibration control works by sensing camera shake (caused by your hands when you hold the camera), and moving the lens (or sensor) to compensate.

Vibration control is certainly a good thing, allowing a photographer to capture a sharper image than would otherwise be possible. And without the weight and inconvenience of a tripod.

But vibration control isn't as effective as a good tripod.

 Faster shutter speed
You increase your odds of a non-blurry photo when you crank up the shutter speed. This helps counter the effects of camera shake, especially when you're using a telephoto lens.

Of course, higher shutter speeds aren't always available to you. In low-light conditions, you're not going to have that luxury. That's where high ISO comes in.

High ISO
Modern DSLR cameras have the ability to take amazing pictures using higher ISO settings. The resulting images are far cleaner than film (at equivalent ISO settings) used to be.

If your photo requires a high shutter speed (e.g. to capture fast action), the ability to take a clean image at higher ISO settings is essential. If you don't need a high shutter speed (e.g. for a slow moving scene), setting a higher ISO is no match for a tripod.

The tripod is king
There's no getting around it. If you're serious about taking truly spectacular photos, you're going to need a good tripod.

As with many things, you get what you pay for. The basic rule of thumb with tripods, is to get the best you can afford.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://graphictip.blogspot.com/2007/10/want-better-photos-you-need-stability.html' title='Want Better Photos? It uses two jpegs as resources to produce an original picture.

Picture 1 is a photograph of the sun coming through the clouds and

Picture 2 is a picture of a cat (of which we only want its eye).

Here's what to do step by step.
1. First open a new folder on the desktop and name it Eye in the Sky.

2. Save both the pictures above into the folder.

3. Open Photoshop and select Picture 1 as your background picture by opening it with Photoshop.

4. Open Picture 2.

5. Make sure the toolbox is open and visible on the desktop (Window > Tools)

7. Select the Square Marquee Tool at the top left hand side of the toolbox.

8. Use the tool to select the right eye of the cat - this should leave a dashed box around the eye.

11. Once you you are happy you have the right amount selected go to Edit > Copy or press Ctrl + C.

12. Now go to picture 1 (the sky) and either go to Edit > Paste or press Ctrl + V.

13. You should now have the eye on a new layer in the middle of the sky, somewhat like this:

14. If you cannot see a layers window you need to go to Window > Layers.

15. You will now see both the Background and Layer 1 which is the cat’s eye. Make sure that Layer 1 is highlighted then leftclick the arrow next to Opacity at the top and a slider will appear. Either use this or type in the % box to adjust the opacity to 50%.

16. The cats eye is now semitransparent like in the picture below:

17. Now select the move tool in the toolbox or press v, and with the eye layer selected you can drag it around.

18. Using this method, place the eye over the sun in the image.

19. Keep the eye layer selected and with a combination of the eraser tool and then magnifying glass you can remove unwanted parts around the edge of the eye.

20. Zoom in with the magnifying glass and make sure u have all bits removed before moving to the next step.

21. Once you have zoomed out you should have something that looks like this:

22. Nearly finished, go to Layer > Flatten Image to flatten the layers into one. And now save the image as picture 3 in your eye in the sky folder.

23. Now open picture 1 again, the sky.

24. With picture one, use the marquee tool to select the whole image. Now copy it as before.

25. Go to picture 3, and paste it on top.

26. In the new layer you just made, change the opacity to 50% so you see the eye faintly.

27. Use the eraser tool with a soft brush - 48 pixels, to buff the middle of this layer.

28. What this will do is make the middle of the eye stronger and your aim is to get it so it looks like light is being emitted from behind it. Here's what it should look like when you are done:

<img style="DISPLAY: block; In this article I will attempt to put together the various pieces of the puzzle. Application development involves several distinct efforts that need to come together to build a compelling end product. A compelling end product is the combination of design, development architecture, development implementation, automated regression and functional testing and performance and load testing.

Design: People often confuse design with development. Moreover even within design, user interface design is often confused with graphics design. Web user interface design involves the design of the flow of the website and the layout of the specific web pages within the website. The web user interface designer concentrates on the usability of the application. The user interface designer will typically develop "wireframes" using tools like Adobe Photoshop to convey the design. These are often initially developed as prototypes and usability testing is carried with user groups out to ensure that the web application will be intuitive and easy to use. Graphics design on the other hand relates to the aesthetics of the page. The graphics designer is responsible for the aesthetic layout of the pages and the creation of the various graphical objects inside the pages such as images and flash objects. The graphics Designer will typically use a combination of tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Captivate to create the actual graphics objects. A designer will need to work closely with other groups to make sure the design process does not compromise the performance of the application by making sure that the graphics objects are small thus ensuring that the various web performance metrics are unaffected.

Development: This involves converting the design into an actual application. The development typically involves an architectural phase where the underlying modules that make up the application are scoped out. If persistent data storage is needed, a database schema should be designed to accommodate the data storage needs. The choice of the operating system (e.g. Windows, Linux or Solaris) where the web application will run, the web server (e.g. Microsoft IIS, Apache or Tomcat) which will run the web application and the back end database (e.g. Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL or Postgres) which stores the data will need to be made. Various development frameworks are available to build web applications. The most common ones are ASP and ASP.NET from Microsoft, Java Servlets and JSP from Sun, PHP and Perl that are open source. The choice of the application framework is typically dictated by the strengths of the members of the development team. The architectural phase is followed by the implementation phase. This is typically the longest part of the project and during this phase the actual code is written using the design specifications and graphics objects developed by the design team. The programming will typically be done using a combination of the application frameworks mentioned earlier together with HTML, JavaScript and CSS style sheets.

Quality Assurance and Testing: A surprising number of people are of the view that quality assurance and testing is desirable but is not actually needed. Unfortunately this view has its roots in total ignorance of the process that is needed to build a good end product. Regardless of how pretty or slick we make the application, if it does not work as expected, users will reject it. Quality assurance and testing involve two different kinds of tasks. Functional and regression testing is used to verify that the developed application is doing what it is supposed to do. This is achieved by test automation using a functional testing tool. Load and Performance testing is used to ensure that the application performs as intended when it is subjected to the typical load of a production environment. Load testing is practically speaking impossible to perform without using an automated load testing tool since it involves the simulation of a large number of concurrent virtual users. This effect cannot really be achieved manually and needs the assistance of an application that is designed to subject the application to a specified load and then measure its performance when it is subjected to that load. Quality Assurance teams will need to track the bugs or defects in the application using bug tracking tools. Such tools will allow defects to be tracked by all members of the team.

The three groups mentioned above tend to be specialized for their skill set. As an example, people often make the mistake of using developers as quality assurance testers. This is not a wise strategy because most developers who are good at writing software are quite poor at finding bugs or defects in their own software.

Writing good and compelling web applications requires an understanding of all phases of the process, design, development and quality assurance. Skipping phases or taking shortcuts will result in low quality software that will generally cost more in the long run.

About the Author by Umair Khan

Get into shape with the latest on Photoshop

The next tools are made for painting on the canvas freestyle. The first one of them is the Brush tool. The Brush tool is an old favorite for people that want to free hand draw things like they had a brush which they can decrease and increase the size of the contact point. You can also change the hardness of the stroke as well. This will show differences in contrast. The Pencil tool is just like a real pencil with some added tricks. The modes can give you complete freedom or help you make straight lines when you are trying to make objects. The last one is the Color Replacement tool. This handy tool allows you to select a color scheme on an image and replace it with something else. Unlike the bucket tool that will cover the complete area, this tool will allow you to draw in the replacement by hand as if you had a brush. Let's say if you had a blue cup in a picture. You can sample the blue color and decide to make it green. Then you just draw over the area of the cup and anything that is of the sampled color will turn green!

The History brush tool and the Art History brush tool are unique and sometimes overlooked. You can use the History Brush tool to restore the original image in only just section or part of an image. It is usually used when you take a color picture to black and white and then convert a part of it back to color. It's kind of like finding a dusty painting and then wiping it off to see the beauty that it holds underneath. It is a true treasure for the graphic designer or photographer that uses Adobe software product regularly. The Art History Brush tool allows you to copy the texture of an image through the use of art specific styles. Unlike the History Brush tool the Art History Brush tool takes the data from the image and creates something new out of it. It allows you to put a different style of art to an image without it losing its originality.

Oddly enough, three more features that were previously hidden to the human eye are now available for you to view on the left menu. This time though the names have almost nothing to do with what they do. First up is the Dodge tool. This tool lightens an area on the image. The Burn tool darkens an area on the image and the Sponge tool changes the level of saturation on an area in the image. These all have their special purposes that you will come to find out about. Burn and Dodge are usually used for making shadows or erasing shadows.

The Path Selection tool and the Direct Selection tool are both used for paths. The Path Selection tool will allow you to select a path component even if it is surrounded by many different paths. The Direct Selection tool will only select a segment of a path. This is a way to reshape a segment to a different path after it has been created and saved.

The following tools are some of my personal favorites. I have started one too many images with these objects. If you look at my website you can see almost exactly where I started when I created it. The first of these is the Rectangle tool that makes a rectangle of various sizes. The Rounded Rectangle tool makes rectangles that are rounded. I used to use this exclusively in Macromedia Fireworks before I purchased the Adobe CS series. The Ellipse tool allows you to make seemingly perfect circles. The Polygon tool allows you to make polygons. The Line tool makes lines with anchor points at the end so that they can be managed by the Pen tool if you want to get fancy.

The Hand tool is used to move objects that are in a layer in anyway that you would like that is 2d in fashion. The Zoom tool helps you zoom in on a picture or object so you can do fine tuning. The Default Foreground and Background Colors tool lets you return back to black and white when you have gone totally out of whack with you colors you are thinking you are in the 1960s! The Switch Foreground and Background Color tool lets you switch the colors you using at will. It is almost like have a painters tablet to hold your saved colors on.

Have you always wanted to learn how to use Adobe Photoshop but you think that it's not possible? Think again. There are easy to use step by step guides on how to use every feature on Photoshop so you can start making pictures and design graphics that look like they've come right out of a magazine. You can get started by learning the basics like removing red eyes, creating 3D effects logo techniques (text swoosh) etc. Learning Photoshop in a couple hours is definitely a possibility. It won't take you that much time to view the tutorials and apply them, but as with everything practice makes perfect and this is no different. Once you learn how to use Photoshop it will only be a matter of time before you become an expert.

About the Author by David Peters

Tips

Tip# 1

Tip# 2

Sticker Printing Ideas: Accomplishing Logo Designs

Sticker printing is one of the many services offered by printing companies. Stickers are and have been an invaluable print product that have helped shaped, literally and figuratively, your work and other necessities.

The Uses of Stickers There are numerous areas where stickers are used in today's world.

* Labels or stickers are helpful and handy tools that can make tagging items easier. You can make your products more pronounced with stickers for your branding.

* And even with the littlest events can make use of stickers as name tags.

* Most of the time, we find the use for stickers as return addresses that can make it easier to send out items or documents.

* For promotional materials, stickers are also very useful in holding up the company logo, brand, and other symbols for marketing products & services.

* It also effectively makes cause-oriented campaigns and their ideas more popular.

Stickers and Logos It is safe to that stickers are truly indispensable as they make identification better. You can promote your brand effectively, your reader can site who the letter is from with your return address and you can easily know what cause this or that person is upholding all by the virtue of a sticker.

To this, as you have observed other stickers before, logos are as crucial as any other element that goes into sticker printing.

Logos, as said by some, are effective if they are: original, descriptive, easily recognizable, uncluttered or simple, able to communicate values, and are visually tantalizing or it has high impact.

With all these definitions on what a good sticker can do, just how do you suppose you can achieve this?

Logo Design Tips While they say that sticker printing is no rocket science, sticker design or logo design is another different challenge. And although some say it's just stickers, remember that stickers, along with any other printed material, can reflect back on you.

These logo design tips can help you come up with new design ideas and motivate you to play with your imagination. After all, logos are highly graphic material that can be rendered anywhere from fancy to informal.

1. Carefully study your company or brand identity and the idea you would want to communicate. 2. Once you've done the first one, see just which colors would communicate an image you would want to showcase to the world.

3. Logo designs do not always have to have an image or an item in its design. Some of the most recognizable brands consists of just plain letters or even numbers.

4. If you are playing on the idea of including or making an image for your logo, make sure that it is once again appropriate. The kinds of colors and graphics used in the NBA are nowhere near appropriate for a highly formal corporation. At most it can be absurd.

5. Study your contemporaries and assess just what would make your logo stand out from them. Research is always a part of a good logo design.

6. Logos, most of the time, go for that simple, clean look by using geometric shapes or a combination of it.

7. While there are companies who use a variety of colors for their logo, it helps if you limit your logo colors to a minimum. This way, the color combination you choose is readily identifiable.

These sticker printing and logo design ideas can duly help you churn out memorable, high-impact logos for your company, brands and out source for articles to help you with your brochure printing. At the same time, you can find just how a printing company can truly be your partner before, during and even after printing.

About the Author by jennifer abejuela
More topics on Sticker Printing can be found at Full Color Printing Services - U Printing

Website Graphics - Why Should You Have Website Graphics For Your Business Site?

One: There are many ways to attract customers to your site but SEO is one of the big ones being used. An attractive and readable poster printing
material gets your target readers to pay more attention to your
message.

Nevertheless, no matter how good your message is or how great
your ideas are, if you don't have a poster printing design that
is easy to understand, everything will just go to waste.

Before your target readers could even begin to read what you
have to say, their first impression of your business would be
made from your poster printing design. An effective poster
printing design helps you highlight your capabilities, as well
as help your target readers understand your message. Your poster
printing design also keeps you from becoming one of the crowd.

To help you create an effective poster printing design for your
business, here are often made mistakes that can seriously
prevent you from getting the success you desire.

Mistake # 1: A cluttered headline.

At the topmost of the list, what your poster printing design
shouldn't have is a cluttered headline. The problems usually
included with this type of a poster printing design are:
excessive and pointless words, logos that compete with your
poster printing headline, and too many graphic accents.

Headlines don't need too many words to develop your poster
printing message. Words like 'the' are unnecessary that they
only provide clutter to your headline. On the other hand, your
logo should not be made to compete with your target readers'
attention. You can always put your logo away from your poster
printing headline where it can shine and get the attention it
deserves.

Mistake # 2: Absence of white space.

White space is used to create an impact among your poster
printing graphics and text. Hence, your message and images can
help each other to make your poster printing material easier to
understand. White space should appear as margins to help you
outline your text and provide your readers with a spot to rest
their eyes.

White space should also be used to create impact on your
headline. Your white space can help you unclutter your poster
printing headline by providing a breathing room for your text
and your pictures.

Mistake # 3: Use of unnecessary graphic accents that confuse
rather than enhance your poster printing project.

Borders, shaded backgrounds, and rules - all of these are
graphic accents used to supposedly enhance your poster printing
project. However, too much of these graphic accents lead to a
more confused and distracted readers of your poster printing
materials.

The point of having graphic accents in your poster printing
design is to provide a functional barrier among your elements -
contrary to popular belief of using them as decorations.

Mistake # 4: Color in excess.

Color can make your poster printing design a stand out. However,
too much of it can also interfere with your target readers'
ability to easily understand your message, as well as create a
weak image for your business.

The bottom line is that your message is the main element in your
poster printing project. Creating a poster printing design to
help you highlight and emphasize your message should be the main
concern of every business owner and graphic designer starting
their poster printing project.

About the author: Colleen Davis

Graphic Downloads - Is This Something That You Want To Use?

There are a lot of websites online that use graphics to help them look professional. Some of them even have graphic downloads that they can use or you can use. However, you have to be very careful about what type of graphics you use online. Why is it important to be careful?
One: Graphic downloads may include graphics that are copyrighted by someone else. You can be sued for using a copyrighted graphic. You don't want to copy a design from anyone else's website unless you have their written permission.
Two: Graphics are all over the place but when you don't know where the graphics were collected from or made from you could end up getting yourself into trouble. Unless you know for a fact that the person you are getting them from would not give you anything that was copyrighted.
The graphics that you use on your website can help it to look professional or like an amateur site. You always want your site to look professional because when it doesn't you will end up losing money. No one wants to buy anything from someone that doesn't look and sound professional.
There are a couple of different ways that you can get graphic downloads without getting into trouble.
One: You can find someone to make your graphics for you. This can get expensive though so you want to make sure you do your research before using this option.
Two: Find a graphics package from someone that knows about graphics and won't sell you anything copyrighted.
Three: The best way to get the graphics that you need is to find a graphics library that is a membership site. Membership sites won't give you any graphics that are copyrighted because they can get into big trouble if they do.
Four: If you are a graphic designer you can make them yourself.
These are all the ways that you can get the graphic downloads that you need but some are better than others. You just want to make sure that you check into all of your options before you decide how to get the graphics for your site. It is very important that you know where everything is coming from before you use it online. You want to make money from your website, not lose money from bad graphics or get sued for using copyrighted material. It is always better to be safe and smart by doing your homework before you use anything. '
Would you like to have one of the best graphics libraries available? Graphic design is used for a number of reasons such as commercial, advertising or education purposes. It involves visual effects that will enhance information, products or other services. With the internet it is now being used for a lot more reasons.
There are websites online that use graphic design on their sites to make it look more professional. Graphic designers now work offline for television, magazines, and other companies that need visual aids. They also work online for corporations and even individuals that need graphics for their business sites.
Some of the graphic designs that you will see are logos, brochures, charts, graphs and even diagrams. These are only a few of the graphics that you will see online and off. Next time you are online or out somewhere, look at all of the visual aids that you see everywhere. These are all done by a graphic artist.
Some graphic designers will specialize in only one area but most of them have knowledge in more than one area because of all of the graphic designs that are needed. The internet has only added to the work that a designer can do. Some designers will even do most of their work for websites that need their graphics because there are so many individuals that are now doing home businesses online.
If you are a graphic designer you can even have your own home business. This is becoming more and more common these days because of the ever expanding need for graphics everywhere. When you want to work as a designer, you will need to have the experience or get the training that is needed. There are all kinds of opportunities for someone who can design graphics.
Graphic design is not only about creativity but also having knowledge of computers and powerful graphic design software programs. You need to also have logic skills to be able to use the many software programs that are available and to trouble shoot computing issues. These are the most important things for a graphic designer to have but not all of them.
Graphic design is and will continue to grow because of the internet and all of the businesses offline. People everywhere are looking for graphic designs that they can use without getting into trouble for copyrighted material. This is why they hire graphic designers to do the work that they need done.
Would you like to have one of the best graphics libraries available? And how are you going about building it. Let's talk for a minute about opt in email list marketing. When you break it down you come up with components.
1. Email marketing
2. Lists
3. Opt in
If you do Internet marketing you should be doing email marketing. If you do email marketing you should be building one or more lists. If you are building a list or two they should be opt in. This just means that the person agrees to receive email from you.
If it is not opt in, or even double opt in, you could be accused of spamming. This is a good way to lose you list. I should know, it happened to me.
In the summer of 2003 I was using an autoresponder that claimed to email for customers with lists of over 1 million people. My list was made up of over 125,000 subscribers I bought 10,000 at a time. They all had the time, date and ISP stamp so they were legal. I was protected, I thought.
Anyway I went away on vacation to Mexico and when I came back I had lost my list and my domain name. The autoresponder company had been shut down due to spam complaints from all of the members in total. OUCH!
So I went about building an opt in email list for marketing by getting my subscribers one at a time and making sure they confirmed they wanted email from me. I use AWeber for this and have not had one problem now in 4 years.
Here is what is great about doing it that way. I get a chance to sell 3 times.
1. On my subscription form
2. On my confirmation request email telling them to activate their subscription
3. On my thank you for confirming your subscription email
I like to offer a small bonus in the email requesting they confirm. There is so much junk mail that sometimes people just need a nudge to follow through and confirm.
And I even like to offer one more bonus on the thank you page and in the thank you for confirming email. Doing this builds some good will and keeps people from unsubscribing.
One other thing is to point them to your privacy page where you emphatically state that you hate spam just as much as they do. You will never reveal their information. I put this on my sign up form and again remind them of it in the request to confirm email. This will increase your confirmation rate for sure!
Another thing I like to do is spruce on the thank you page they get from AWeber. These are usually pretty cut and dried and people can get used to seeing it and clickin away before reading it. Liven it up a little with another bonus or a graphic or to. If you have a logo or a picture of yourself add it here. This just helps brand yourself, your company, and your product.
Finally when doing opt in email lists marketing make those first few emails you send really good. I mean so good that a person would be crazy for unsubscribing. If you have a blog post in it and get your list visiting it. If you email in html add some pictures, your logo again, affiliate banners, or anything to seem like your business is alive and fun to be around!
This should make marketing to your list more productive. Remember this! Building a quality email list can pay off for you for years to come.

About the Author : Jeff Schuman
For email list secrets you can use to make more money be sure and check out this eBook for $7. The best web design companies will be knowledgeable in all the areas that make a website successful and should have a successful site or too of their own. You need to find a company with a portfolio of websites they have already designed so as to give you an idea of what they are capable of.
Once you have got a good website designed you want your visitors to stay on your website for as long as possible. The longer the visitors are on your website the more chance they are of buying something or coming back again. So the first thing you want your website to do is work properly, ie when you click on your link you site should load up fast. If your site takes more than a few seconds to load you will loose a large majority of visitors, fact! Huge pictures that take a long time to load will loose you some visitors. Many people get fed up waiting for images to load.
Another important issue is navigation. There is nothing worse than a website with poor navigation. You want the site to have a clear and consistent navigation throughout the site. Using templates it the by far the best way to achieve this. With templates every page is the same and the menu and navigation buttons are always in the same place.
Browsers are another issue. Not everyone uses Internet Explorer, although it is one of the more popular. The browser Firefox is becoming more and more popular and is used by over 20 millions people each day. So you need to make sure your website works just as well in the other Browsers. The main ones to check are Netscape Navigator, Opera, Lynx, Hot Java and Amaya. All browsers work slightly different and your pages can look completely different on each browser. There are sites where you can check the compatibility of your website on each browser.
Another important issue is that the text is easy to read. There are lots of pretty fonts but they are not practical, Arial and Verdana are the best. Font size is also important as you want your visitors to be able to read the text. Using bright colour font is a bad mistake too, in fact using bright throughout the site is a big mistake.
Any good professional website design company will know that flash presentations animations and frames are not recommended and will not use them unless the customer insists. But for a good browsing experience it is best to stay well clear of them. Another important fact to remember is that a website will look different on different screen resolutions. Not everyone will have their screen resolution set the same so one person may view it and it looks fine, another person could view it and with a different screen resolution and the site could look completely different.
All of these are just some key factors for good Professional Web Design. Your site should be well designed which is easy to read and navigate, fast loading on any browser, pleasant to the eye without any off putting flashing images or text.

About the Author :
For the best Website design services , contact a1technology

How to design new websites 50% faster, and continues to get faster as you do more. by John Teh

One of the toughest step of web designing has always been the part where you have to crack your head, thinking of the best concept and presentation for the topic you're doing. If you are a perfectionist by nature, double up that level of difficulty. If situation allows, I wouldn't be surprised if the difficulty level might increase even further, taking into consideration other factors such as client's complex requirements, insufficient supporting materials, lack of time, etc.
Designers are designers for a reason. They're borned both creative and innovative. They can see and picture things even before they're physically constructed. Essentially, they simply own the ability to make normal things look uniquely beautiful. Nevertheless, they still do have limitations to the creative ideas they can generate. They need some point of reference to fuel up their creative banks, as well as to speed up the overall designing process. As how everybody likes to put it, more heads are better than one.
Having said that, let us help ourselves by making use of these designers's piece of work. One of such areas where you can harvest such ideas is web templates. The main reason why you can generate such unlimited great designing ideas from analyzing web templates is simply because they probably fulfill every single requirements of a typical information database. Web templates don't only come in abundance, but they come beautifully in abundance. If you ask me, web templates provide both quality and quantity for you to squeeze out your creative juices till the final drop, in the most efficient manner. Theoritically, you're getting these other web designers to help you your work out without even knowing it.
Let's assume that you yourself or one of your clients wants you to get a "restaurant" site done. Through normal instant reflexes, probably you'll get a piece of paper and write down every single idea you can think of. Best colour scheme, layout, where should the menu and navigation will be, images, buttons, icons, content placement, usage of flash, logo, how complex it should be, etc. For me, what I'll simply do is to get myself to any one of your favourite web template website and start searching for web templates that run under the keyword restaurants or probably food. One of the website that you can get your research done is http://www.dead0eye.com/.
I'll type in restaurant in the search box on the top of the page and wait for the results. I'll save the preview image (right click the web template image of preference and save it) of each of the web template that catches my attention into a new folder in my hard drive. I usually save around 10 to 15 web template preview images before I stop completely. Too much ideas aren't really a good thing for your design work. Keep it strictly to a specific number and stay with it. You can search through the web templates using different keywords to get a more wide diversity of results.
As obvious as it seems, the choice of saving the preview images is simply based on the "you know when you see one" concept. Even if you like how the curves look like at a particular area, save it so that you can harvest its concept later on. If you like the combination of colours, save it. The arrangement of certain icons with the content attracts your attention? Save it. It is simple as that.
Now comes the interesting part. Take this next step like a jigsaw puzzle, rearranging the puzzle to create a whole brand new design. Try to be as innovative as possible over here. Take certain parts from various templates, combine them together and don't hesitate to throw in your own ideas to make the final piece a much better one. You've just combined few great ideas in an even bigger final idea. Who told you that you need to think of brand new ideas from scratch?
If you're into keeping a "design idea database", you can always cut or crop the unique parts of the web templates you saved and save all of them into a single file. Everytime you're planning to design a new site, just load up this file into your favourite graphics software to get your creative juices flowing again. Add more ideas into that file as you find more along your designing adventures. You'll find that getting ideas isn't that really a difficult brain squeezing activity anymore.
With this technique, not only you can save huge amount of time planning your work, but at the same time, you'll be indirectly cutting down the workload of your future designing works without even realizing it. You can work and get the job done faster, think less, improve your work quality and ultimately have more time on other important areas of implementing and maintaining your websites. Try this technique, you'll be surprised how fast you'll get your websites up.

About the Author:
John Teh is a Malaysian Web Designer, currently active in providing web services and solutions to anybody who needs them.Web Design Malaysia - http://www.motionedgedesign.com

Web Site Designing & Development: Get Connected Online by John Parker

In this ever-Changing business market, website is one of the most important source through which you can develop your business. A Web site can offer information about the object that it aims to describe using text, graphics, and audio or maybe in some cases video.
Web sites vary from personal/hobby pages to online shopping Web sites, which include Auto Retail Web Design,Web Site Design Development Ecommerce, Real Estate Web Site Design, Medical Web Site Design, Presentation Site Web Design, Travel Web Design. There are also online education, information and publication Web sites. Basically web site content can be almost anything. It all depends on the developer's creativity and design. It may be possible that at the onset you may not be sure as to what you want to publish in your Web site.
Objective Of The Web Site
Web sites are designed keeping in mind a particular set of audience or clients. But with the incredible reach of this medium it has become necessary to keep in mind the global audience. The chance of a web site being visited by not just its target audience is increasing by the day. A very common design technique is to design the Web site in such a manner that it reflects the image of the person, the company or the product.
Basically you have to decide on your primary Web audience and then depending on that create your website. If you just want to put your personal information or hobby page on the Web, then you can develop a web site that shows just that a personal information page containing your hobbies, your pictures and every-thing else that you would like others to know about you.
If you are making a Web page for a company then, you will be primarily addressing the market audience. In such a case your Web site will be containing company profile, job openings, product information and other such features. Another similar example is the online shopping stores on the Web. If you intend creating an online store for selling books then the book reader becomes you main audience.
Whether your target audience is a student, a teacher, an artist or a businessman, your website is still open to the world at large. At no point of time is it restricted to any one type of audience. Once your Web site is on the Internet it can be viewed by anyone in the world. Keeping this in mind you have to develop and design your Navigation And Links Within The Website
It is always helpful if you divide your web site into sections and then list down the broad goals for each section.
Once you have made the broad categories you need to work towards website navigation and organization. As you know that most of the user interaction with Web pages on a site is done using navigating hypertext links. The most common interface problem arises when the user gets lost in the site. This problem can be solved if proper and clear graphics. Icons or text based navigation help is included in the Web page.
Using these navigation bars you help the user in understanding your Web site layout. If these navigation bars are not included in the design then the user is totally dependent on the Web browser buttons of 'Back' and 'Forward' which have the possibility of taking him out of your web site.
